Flowen: Innovative Solution by INSI and AYGA Against Water Waste

5 min readMarch 22, 2023By

INSI and AYGA, two leading technology and innovation companies, have joined forces to create Flowen, a new company focused on an innovative solution to combat water waste. Flowen provides intelligent management and monitoring of water supply networks. The IoT platform and state-of-the-art ultrasonic meter promise to revolutionize the water and sanitation sector in Brazil, bringing efficiency, cost reduction, and transparency to consumers. In this article, we will discuss how this open innovation can accelerate digital transformation in the sector.

With an investment of R$25 million, INSI and AYGA are launching Flowen, an innovative solution that uses technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and big data to manage and monitor water supply networks. The platform aims to reduce water waste and improve the efficiency of water resource distribution.

Flowen's platform eliminates the need for manual metering and in-person access to meters, bringing consumers greater transparency about their water consumption. The solution integrates a robust data analytics platform, providing detailed information on hour-by-hour consumption, maintenance needs, leaks, and consumption forecasts, among other essential information.

Flowen's main product is the IoTA, an ultrasonic water meter that enables remote operations management and accurately monitors water consumption. In addition to public and private utilities, the solution is designed for businesses and industrial parks of all sizes.

The consulting firm Bluefield Research estimates that the smart water market in the United States will generate up to US$20 billion in operating and capital expenditures by 2025. In Brazil, the National Basic Sanitation Plan (Plansab) foresees investments of R$142 billion in water and R$215 billion in sewage by 2033.

Flowen's goal is to implement 500,000 meters in the country by 2025, contributing to sustainable development and universal access to drinking water.

Pioneering initiative with Corsan

Flowen has had valuable collaboration in the technical improvement of its solutions, in the experimentation and validation of its innovative technology. Companhia Riograndense de Saneamento (Corsan), a INSI client, has been monitoring the project since 2020 and is already experimentally deploying more than 250 high-precision meters to effectively monitor its operations.

The evaluation process involved installing the equipment connected to the platform in various climatic and geographic environments, under extreme heat and cold conditions, such as coastal and mountainous regions, ensuring the effectiveness, reliability, and accuracy of the water flow reading and measurement solutions.

"We are very confident that this project represents a significant leap in the efficiency of our operations and in our efforts to sustainably preserve resources. It's a key differentiator that we use technology from two market-recognized Brazilian companies, such as INSI and AYGA, which allows us to use financing and credit funds associated with BNDES and other banks to purchase equipment manufactured here. Furthermore, it offers a counterpoint to Chinese products that are not suited to Brazilian realities, do not allow integration with other systems, and are difficult to maintain," emphasizes Jean Bordin, Commercial, Innovation, and Relationship Director at Corsan.****
