In 1842, in England, a woman created the first algorithm to be processed by a machine, long before computers existed. Ada Lovelace was the first programmer in history. Her legacy helped plant the seeds of the digital age that blossomed more than a century later.
A few years later, in the United States, Grace Hopper became the first woman to earn a PhD in Mathematics from Yale University. She worked in technology for the United States Navy, created the Common Business-Oriented Language (COBOL), and contributed to the creation of the first commercially available computer, the UNIVAC.
These two historical figures show us that we have always been innovators, pioneers. We participated in the creation of the world of technology. At some point, due to various circumstances and contexts, this was lost, and the current rates of women's inclusion in technology (like so many others) are below what is possible, desired, and correct. At INSI, we believe that multiculturalism and gender diversity benefit everyone. Our Executive Committee has four women. Our leadership team comprises 46% women, and over 35% of our employees are female. Even with all these percentages above the market, we still have a long way to go. We are here to rewrite this history and support more and more women in taking on leading roles in the information technology market. In keeping with our purpose of promoting human growth through technology, we want to inspire, promote encounters, learn, teach, and transform. Our tribute to women is to work for equality in the job market, in our sector, and in society. Today, we launched a series of actions that renew the INSI #WomeninTech initiative for 2022. Opportunities for training, networking, inspiration, and fostering female entrepreneurship will be featured on our calendar throughout the year, encouraging and promoting greater participation of women in technology.
We are many, we are strong, we are INSI. Happy International Women's Day.
